This page describes what information WhiskMath ("we", "us") collects when you use whiskmath.com and its subdomains (the "Site"), how we use it, and the rights you have over it. This page is maintained by the operator of WhiskMath.

Who we are

WhiskMath is an independent publisher of free kitchen and baking calculators. You can reach us at any time via our contact page. That address is also the controller for GDPR requests and the "authorized agent" address for CCPA/CPRA requests.

What we collect

We keep the data footprint deliberately small.

  • Calculator inputs. The numbers you type into a calculator are processed in your browser. They are also encoded into the page URL so you can share your calculation — that URL is visible to you and to anyone you share it with. We do not store the inputs on our servers.
  • Cookie choice. Your accept/decline choice is saved in your browser's localStorage so the banner does not re-appear on every visit. It never leaves your device.
  • Analytics (only if you accept). If (and only if) you accept cookies, we may load a privacy-respecting web analytics tool to count page views, referring domains, device type, and approximate country. We do not use analytics to build cross-site profiles.
  • Advertising (only if you accept). If (and only if) you accept cookies, we may load ads from Google AdSense and, in the future, other advertising partners. Those partners use cookies and similar technologies as described below.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider records standard request logs (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp, response status) for security and abuse prevention. Logs are retained for up to 30 days.
  • Contact messages. If you email us, we keep the message and your email address so we can reply and so we have a record of the conversation.

We do not ask for, and do not knowingly collect, names, phone numbers, addresses, payment details, or account credentials — WhiskMath has no user accounts.

Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file a website can store in your browser. The Site itself sets one first-party value (your cookie choice, in localStorage). Any additional cookies are set by third parties listed below, and only after you accept in the consent banner.

  • Strictly necessary. The consent-choice value. Always active; no consent required because it exists to remember whether you consented.
  • Analytics. Loaded only after you accept. Used to measure aggregate traffic patterns.
  • Advertising. Loaded only after you accept. Google and any future ad partners may set cookies to serve ads, measure ad performance, and limit how often you see the same ad. See the "Advertising" section below.

You can change your choice at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of every page.

Advertising: Google AdSense and future partners

We plan to fund the Site with display advertising through Google AdSense and possibly additional advertising partners. When ads are active, and only for visitors who have accepted cookies:

  • Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this Site and other sites on the internet. This is called personalized advertising.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google by visiting Google Ads Settings.
  • You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info/choices (US) or youronlinechoices.eu (EU).
  • For visitors from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we serve non-personalized ads by default unless you explicitly consent to personalized ads through our Google-certified consent management platform. Non-personalized ads still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and fraud prevention, but do not use your browsing history to select which ad to show.
  • If you decline cookies, we do not load any ad partner scripts, so no ad cookies are set and no personalized ads are served.

The list of active ad partners is disclosed in our /ads.txt file at the root of the Site, following the IAB Tech Lab standard.

How we use the information

  • Operate, secure, and improve the Site.
  • Understand which calculators and articles are useful (analytics).
  • Serve, measure, and cap the frequency of ads (only with consent).
  • Reply to messages you send us.
  • Comply with legal obligations (e.g. respond to lawful requests).

We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising when you have declined cookies. When you accept cookies, allowing personalized ads may constitute "sharing" under the CCPA/CPRA — see your rights below.

Legal bases (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR:

  • Consent for analytics cookies, advertising cookies, and personalized ads. You can withdraw consent at any time via "Cookie settings" in the footer.
  • Legitimate interests for keeping short-term server logs (security, abuse prevention) and for replying to messages you initiate.
  • Legal obligation when we must retain or disclose information to comply with the law.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over the personal information we hold about you:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold.
  • Correction — ask us to fix inaccurate information.
  • Deletion — ask us to erase your personal information.
  • Restriction and objection — ask us to stop or limit certain uses.
  • Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — for anything we do on the basis of your consent. Use "Cookie settings" in the footer.
  • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (California, and similar rights in Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, and other US states) — declining cookies via the banner acts as your opt-out signal. We also honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) as an opt-out preference.
  • Non-discrimination — we will not deny service, charge different prices, or provide a lower level of service because you exercised any of these rights.

To exercise any right, email us via the contact page. We will respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally 30 days under GDPR, 45 days under CCPA/CPRA). We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. If you believe we have not handled your request properly, you can lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; residents of the EEA and UK can find their supervisory authority at edpb.europa.eu.

Children's privacy

WhiskMath is a general-audience site about cooking. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it. We do not request or knowingly display personalized ads to users we know to be under 13; when required by COPPA or a similar law, we configure our ad partners to treat requests as tag-for-child- directed treatment.

Retention

Server logs are kept for up to 30 days. Contact-form messages are kept for as long as we reasonably need them to answer follow-up questions, typically no longer than 24 months. Analytics data is retained in aggregate form only, per the analytics provider's default retention (typically 14 months).

International data transfers

The Site is hosted on globally distributed edge infrastructure, which means the servers serving you may be located outside your country. Where we transfer personal information out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses (or equivalent UK/Swiss addenda) with our providers.

Security

The Site is served over HTTPS. We do not maintain a database of user accounts. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the limited information we do handle.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, surface a notice on the Site.
